According to dictionary.com, there are 21 definitions of the word "play"...and that's just in the noun category. My favorite at the moment is number 18.
play – noun#18: freedom of movement within a space, as of a part of a mechanism.
I like this definition because it's how I feel when I look at print design. What may seem static to most viewers, is not so from my point of view. I think movement within a print design is all about how the elements work together on the page, and when done well, makes the final project a masterpiece, even if only to the creator.
So I say, "Experiment with play." Something wonderful will come of it.
